SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity is a trusted source of practical, emotional, and financial support for serving personnel, veterans and their families in their time of need. In 2021 our trained teams of volunteers and employees helped more than 66,000 people, from Second World War veterans to those who have served in more recent conflicts, or currently serving (both regulars and reserves), and their families.
SSAFA understands that behind every uniform is a person. And we are here for that person and their family, any time they need us and in any way they need us.
The Baldwin Trust is a volunteer run charity providing small group, fully crewed narrowboat trips along the scenic and tranquil Leicestershire waterways. We've been operating for 40 years. Our two boats are located at Barrow Boating (Barrow upon Soar) and Leicester Marina (Thurmaston) and have ramps and lifts for easy boarding, so no stairs. Each boat can carry up to 12 passengers, with a maximum of 4 wheelchair users per boat and have spacious cabins, kitchen galley and toilet onboard. We operate 7 days a week from 1 April to 31 October (river levels permitting).
Holistic approach to emotional, mental health, physical and overall wellbeing for all ages.
Voluntary Action Rutland (VAR) has been running our community transport and social car scheme continuously for over 43 years. We regularly cover 150,000 miles of driving, undertaking thousands of separate journeys, to hospitals and appointments in the wider LLR area. We also provide transport and community vehicles for shorter trips, shopping and social gatherings throughout the county and beyond.
Our voluntary and community transport offering is always in need of volunteers!
