What is an ever smoker?

Even if you no longer smoke, or only smoked occasionally in the past, you may still be classed as an ever smoker.

Smoking isn’t limited to cigarettes. It also includes roll‑ups, cigars, shisha and water pipes. If you think you’ve smoked more than 100 of any of these products over your lifetime, it’s important to let your GP know.

Making sure this information is recorded on your GP record means you can be contacted about Lung Cancer Screening in the future, when the programme becomes available in your area. If your smoking history isn’t up to date, you may miss out on an invitation.

Updating your record is quick, confidential, and helps ensure you’re offered the right care at the right time.
