LLR Policy for Surgical Intervention for Low Back Pain

Threshold Criteria

Eligibility

The LLR ICB will only fund the following in accordance with the NICE Guidance (NG59)
 
Spinal Decompression

For people with radicular/ neuropathic pain when non-surgical treatment has not improved pain or function

AND

Radiological findings are consistent with radicular/ neuropathic symptoms
 
Spinal Fusion

For people with radicular pain and instability/structural problems
 
NOT ROUTINELY FUNDED for people with non-radicular back pain
 
Disc Replacement

NOT ROUTINELY FUNDED for people with non-radicular back pain
