The Chief Executive of the local NHS in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland is set to retire
later this year.
In a statement, Andy Williams, Chief Executive of the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland
Integrated Care Board, said: “After considerable thought, and careful reflection, I have made
the tough decision to retire in November of this year after 38 years in the NHS.
“I have had the privilege of working with some extraordinary people and serving a wide variety
of communities. I feel very fortunate to have had the career I have had and it has been an
honour to have been part of a very special service.
“I came to Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland in 2019 with three important goals: to bring
together the three Clinical Commissioning Groups to create a single commissioning voice for
the NHS; to change the way the NHS worked moving from competition to collaboration; and to
create more effective relationships between the NHS and its partners. We have, together, made
great progress culminating in the creation of the Integrated Care Board (ICB).
“We are now at the next phase of the ICB’s development to enhance our partnership working
and collaboration. It feels right therefore, to hand over the reins to someone new to shape the
future of the ICB.”
After retirement, Andy plans to pursue his many interests outside work, including his role with
the rights equality organisation “brap”, a role as a school governor and a role with the Cathedral
in Birmingham, the city where he lives. He also intends to explore other opportunities including
simply having more time for recreation and travel.
