Representatives from the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland (LLR) Care Record have showcased their work to a national audience at the second annual Shared Care Record Summit, held in Birmingham.

The event brought together hundreds of health and social care professionals to learn and share knowledge about local progress of shared care record solutions and also hear from senior NHS England staff on future plans for Connecting Care Records. It follows on from the first Summit held in Leeds last year.

The Shared Care Record Summit in April 2024 was hosted by Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Trust, Yorkshire and Humber Care Record and NHS England.

Laura Godtschalk, LLR Care Record Programme Manager, was one of the speakers at the two-day event, updating colleagues on progress with the LLR Care Record generally, and more specifically with regards to recent partnership working with pharmacies. This initiative, when complete, will enable pharmacists to see more of their customers’ health and care history and recent treatment, with a view to providing improved care and patient experience.

Laura said: “I was told that the presentation was well received by event delegates who were interested in our work and were looking to replicate the approach with pharmacies in their local areas. Attending the Summit was a good way of letting people know what we’re doing in LLR but importantly hearing from others of practical ideas to solving challenging issues.”

The LLR Care Record is joining up people’s health and care records across the NHS and local authorities. It means information recorded about someone’s health and care such as illnesses, treatments and hospital admissions can be accessed by different people who are directly involved in their care. Hospitals, GPs and other health and care workers have always tended to have separate records – the LLR Care Record is allowing the data from these to be seen in one place.

The LLR Care Record is being progressed by the LLR Integrated Care Board, Leicestershire Partnership Trust, University Hospitals of Leicester, GP services, East Midlands Ambulance Service, the three upper tier local authorities (Leicester City Council, Leicestershire County Council and Rutland County Council), LOROS Hospice and other partners including community pharmacy and DHU.
