People in Lutterworth are invited to a free health and wellbeing event, where there will also be an opportunity to comment on proposals to improve local healthcare services.

The event, which has been organised by the local NHS, will be held at the Wycliffe Rooms (Main Hall) in Lutterworth on Thursday 7 December. People can drop-in anytime between 10am and 2pm to learn more about the proposals for Feilding Palmer Hospital, ask questions and receive support to complete a questionnaire.

While they are there, people can also chat with local health professionals about their health and wellbeing. On offer will be blood pressure checks, lifestyle advice and guidance to recognise cancer symptoms early. People can also have a general medication review and talk to people about dementia care, plus much more.

Dr Graham Johnson, GP and senior partner at Wycliffe Medical Practice in Lutterworth, said: “All year round we should look after our own health and wellbeing, but particularly in the winter, as this time can be seriously bad for our health. But there are several things we can do for ourselves and this event will provide lifestyle advice to help people through the winter.

“It’s also a great opportunity to hear about our vision to provide high quality and modern services closer to home, and our proposals to help achieve that vision in Lutterworth.”

Responding to the people’s changing health needs, proposals have been developed to keep Feilding Palmer Hospital open, refurbish it and expand the number of services provided there.

The plans, which will accommodate the expected population growth in Lutterworth as new housing is built, will see 17,000 appointments provided every year from the hospital, enabling people to receive a diagnosis and outpatient services closer to home. This will reduce the burden of travelling for treatment, saving over 200,000 miles each year and avoiding costly car parking charges.

Find out more and have your say on the proposed changes by attending the drop-in event on 7 December, or visit: www.haveyoursaylutterworth.co.uk.
