Local residents in Hinckley are being invited by the local NHS in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland to attend a drop-in event to discuss plans for a new Day Case Unit (DCU) at Hinckley and District Hospital.
The drop-in event will take place on Wednesday 12 February 2025, between 2pm and 7pm at The Green Rooms in Hinckley Masonic Hall, St. Mary’s Road, Hinckley.
Those attending will have the opportunity to find out more about the proposals for the Day Case Unit, as well as be able to view plans first-hand. The NHS project team, clinicians, representative of the local Patient Participation Group (PPG), architects and designers of the new site will all be on hand to speak directly with people and answer any questions.
The total cost of the new DCU on the existing Hinckley and District Hospital site is £10.5million and will see all services delivered from a new building on the Mount Road site linked to the new Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC). Development of the DCU is the second phase of the local NHS’s development for Hinckley. This Unit would cater for a wider range of clinical specialities in more modern facilities. Speciality services that would be delivered include plastic surgery, general surgery, vascular surgery, ophthalmology, urology, podiatric surgery and gynaecology.
Sarah Prema, Chief Strategy Officer at the LLR ICB, said: “It is really important that Hinckley residents attend the drop-in event, as they will have the opportunity to hear about and see the latest plans and proposals for this major investment in new health facilities.
“Our plans will see the delivery of a modern, fit-for-purpose Day Case Unit for the local population allowing care to be delivered closer to home, and people can come and talk to us directly about these plans, as well as provide their views.”

A Day Case Unit is a much needed and wanted service in Hinckley. With so many new homes and therfore people in and around the area, everyone you talk to can’t believe we don’t have a hospital let alone much else. I currently have to take my elderly father into Leicester regularly
for chemotherapy and my son needs regular physiotherapy which there is currently no provision for for under 16’s in hinckley. This incurs added length of time out of work for myself and school for my child making it costly in all manner of finance and education. We absolutely welcome all new health facilities and services that can possibly be offered here.
Why was this facility NOT built on the sunny side Ashby road site ? That site is easer access for ALL . The site has room to expand for future development. The mount road site was NOT given enough thought for the areas needs .
Why is the old Mount road section NOT being incorporated in to the new build? Yes it is possible and possibly at a saving yes the interior would need restructuring for purpose but is achievable.
The residents of Hinckley And the surrounding area are loosing there heritage at an alarming rate due to the incompetence of the local planning authority etc .This is 1 of very few heritage buildings left locally , many local residents and businesses have contributed to the site over the years and deserve to Be payed back by preserving the cottage building .
Thank you for your comment. Please attend our drop-in event on 12 February to discuss further and find out more.
