LLR Policy for Congenital Pigmented Lesion on the Face

Pigmented skin lesions are patches on the skin which can appear black, brown or blue. These patches are the result of activity involving melanin or blood.  These pigments can be either benign in nature, or they can be malignant.

Any lesions where there is concern about malignancy should be referred using the 2WW pathway

Eligibility

LLR ICB  will fund treatment of congenital pigmented lesions on the FACE only, if all of the following criteria is met

·       The patient is aged less than 18 year at the time of referral
AND
·       The child (not just the parent/ carer) expresses concern
AND
·       The lesion is at least 1cm in diameter
The referral should include

·       Details of condition
·       Size of lesion
·       Age of child
·       Evidence of function / trauma
