LLR Policy for Gastro Fundoplication for Chronic Reflux Oesophagitis

Threshold Criteria

The procedure is used to tighten the ring of muscle at the bottom of the oesophagus, which helps to stop acid leaking up from the stomach. It’s carried out in hospital under general anaesthesia.

Eligibility

LLR ICB will fund this procedure if the following criteria is met
 
– regular, significant symptoms of gastro-oesophageal reflux despite receiving at least one year of continuous pharmacological treatment up to the maximum dose licensed for reflux oesophagitis

OR

– significant volume reflux placing them at risk of aspiration

OR

– anaemia because of oesophagitis

OR

– Significant oesophagitis despite maximum therapy regardless of treatment time.
