Proposals for a new Day Case Unit in Hinckley moved another step forward today, as the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Integrated Care Board (LLR ICB) announced that it had submitted a planning application to Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council for the development.
A new build Day Case Unit on the existing Hinckley and District Hospital site would see all services delivered from a new building on the Mount Road site linked to the new Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC). Development of the DCU is the second phase of our development for Hinckley. This Unit would cater for a wider range of clinical specialities in more modern facilities. Speciality services that would be delivered include breast care, general surgery, gynaecology, ophthalmology, orthopaedic surgery, pain management, plastic surgery, podiatric surgery, renal access surgery, urology and vascular surgery. The total cost of the new facility is £10.5million.
A formal period of consultation is now underway for the public and other interested identified parties to express their views and comment on the planning application. Feedback from the public is welcomed by the Council, and can be provided on their website by entering application number 25/00461/FUL or by clicking this link: 25/00461/FUL | Demolition of former Cottage Hospital and development of new day case surgery building with associated landscaping and parking | Hinckley And District General Hospital Mount Road Hinckley Leicestershire LE10 1AE
Alternatively, people can view and comment on applications by visiting the Hinckley Hub, Rugby Road, Hinckley, Leicestershire, LE10 0FR from 8.30am to 5pm (Monday to Thursday) and 8.30am to 4.30pm (Friday). Anyone needing assistance can telephone 01455 238141.
Once this process is complete, the feedback and planning application will be discussed by the Council’s Planning Committee during a public meeting to determine an outcome. The date of this meeting will depend on the nature of the consultation responses received. Committee meeting dates and agendas can be found using the following link: Browse meetings – Planning committee | Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council.
Jo Clinton, Head of Strategy and Planning at LLR ICB, said: “This is another major step forward in the development of a Day Case Unit for Hinckley and great news for local people. We hosted a successful engagement event in Hinckley earlier this year, from which it was apparent that a strong majority of people really welcomed our proposals, recognising the need for a modern, fit-for-purpose Day Case Unit, which would allow care to be delivered closer to home, so local people to travel into the city or elsewhere.
“I’d like to encourage people to provide their feedback so that they have an opportunity to comment on the planning application and help the Council make an informed decision on the application. We will provide an update on the outcome in due course and will also publish the information on our website.”
Andrew Strange, Strategy Lead at NHS Property Services, owners of the site, added: “We are thrilled to be able to announce this new milestone for the Day Case Unit at Hinckley and District Hospital. The purpose-built Unit, linked to the Community Diagnostic Centre, is an example of our unwavering commitment to deliver brilliant patient care in estates that are fit for the future.”

We desperately need some local services, this will also free up beds in the main hospitals where more serious conditions need to be looked after. We have to go the general for the pain management clinic it’s such a long journey when in pain.
Thank you for your feedback. We aim to deliver care closer to home so that services are more accessible, which in turn will also mean we can see and treat more patients.
As a pensioner who relies on public transport I welcome these plans. I and may others will be able to get treatment locally instead of having to travel to Leicester. It will also mean that Leicester hospitals will be able to treat more urgent and serious illness quicker. Everyone will benefit from this proposal.
