Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Integrated Care Board (LLR ICB) is inviting people to attend an event, highlighting the views of children and young people on healthcare.

Over 3000 children, young people, their families and healthcare professionals have had their say on children and young people’s healthcare in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, through large-scale research the ICB carried out earlier this year, on the health issues that matter to them.

The ‘What You Saying?’ Young Voices on Healthcare event, to be held in Leicester on Wednesday 9 October 2024, will be hosted and facilitated by young people, and will showcase the insight gathered and outline what people said was important to them, together with the actions being planned as a result of the findings.

Dr Imad Ahmed, Clinical Lead for Children’s and Young People’s Health for the LLR ICB, said: “This was the first time we had reached out to young people in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland at such a large scale. We wanted to build a picture of the health and wellbeing of children and young people and understand what their needs are. We wanted to know, for example, whether services and organisations are communicating effectively with each other, or whether young people find they are having to ‘tell their stories’ and explain themselves over and over again, when referred for care and treatment.

“This event is designed to show that, when it comes to making service improvements, we need to plan this together with young people, as they are the experts in terms of how it feels to access services. I really encourage anyone with an interest in young people’s health, to come along and find out what we learned and what we are planning to do about it.”

The event will take place on Wednesday 9 October 2024 from 6pm to 7.30pm at the NSPCC National Training Centre, 3 Gilmour Close, Leicester LE4 1EZ. It will be of particular interest to young people who are interested in health, wellbeing or social action and making positive changes for their peers. The LLR ICB also hopes to attract family members, youth organisations and staff who work with young people, including teachers, youth workers, and those working in the voluntary and community sector.
