Support for People Living with Sickle Cell & Thalassemia

The overall goal of the project is to empower and comfort the disadvantaged, needy and neglected children living with sickle cell disease (SCD) and other blood related disorders in the Leicestershire region with three main objectives:

The project is targeting one thousand (1000) children living with SCD in the Leicestershire region.
To change the perception of the community of Leicestershire about sickle cell disease and eliminate stigmatization and discrimination against the children living with the disease.
To address the psychosocial needs of families and children living with sickle cell disease (SCD) and provide hope and comfort
To provide health care (treatment), education, and basic support to children living with sickle cell disease (SCD) and their families in the East Midlands.

Using sports coaching and mentoring, Greenhouse Sports transforms the lives of children growing up in poverty. We place Coach-Mentors full-time into primary and secondary schools, in areas of high deprivation. Coach-Mentors deliver sports sessions before, during and after the school day, as well as weekends and holidays. Coaches deliver all sessions using the STEP framework. Designed and developed by Greenhouse over the last 20 years, to specifically develop their Social, Thinking, Emotional and Physical skills.

In 2019, The Department of Health and Social Care, in collaboration with Health Education England, invested in scaling up the courses as part of its "widening participation" strategy. The Department gave The Prince's Trust a four-year grant to support 10,000 young, work-ready people from diverse backgrounds into jobs, helping organisations recruit a workforce reflective of the local community.

We support over 900 people with learning disabilities across England, enabling them to live as independently as possible.
