Patients in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland are invited to share their recent experiences of healthcare provided by local GP practices, in a survey that has launched today (22 January 2024).
The survey has been arranged in partnership between NHS Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland and groups of GP practices, known as primary care networks, who want to understand how services could be improved.
All GP practices work in new ways nowadays to make sure everyone gets the right care from a suitably qualified healthcare professional. The range of health professionals who can provide care has been expanded and video, online and telephone consultations have been introduced, along with digital services, to make it easier for people to get what they need. For example, people can use the NHS App to request repeat prescriptions and view their GP record and correspondence.
The survey asks about people’s experiences of contacting their practice, making an appointment and the care they received. It will help practices to understand the impact of these new ways of working as well as people’s general experiences.
Dr Nil Sanganee, Chief Medical Officer for NHS Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland said:
“It’s really important that patients tell us about what it’s like for them when they use their GP practice. We know patients can feel frustrated at times, which is why practices have been changing how they provide care. By filling in this survey it will help local practices to understand where we need to do better and enact local plans to help improve things.”
The survey is open to anybody aged 16 years or over and who is registered with a GP practice in Leicester, Leicestershire or Rutland. All information provided by respondents will be anonymous and will be independently analysed.
The closing date for completed questionnaires is 23.59pm on Sunday 10 March 2024. Patients can fill in the questionnaire online at www.bit.ly/LLRGPSurvey or they can collect a copy from their GP practice.
To help patients get in the know about the changes to how to use your general practice, the local NHS has produced a guide. Visit www.getintheknow.co.uk to find out more.

REF: OAKMEADOW SURGERY. TATLOW RD, LEICESTER.
I FEEL UPSET AND FRUSTRATED BY THE NEW SYSTEM THAT IS RUNNING.
I HAVE A LIFE LONG CONDITION, HYPOPITUITARISM AND NEED MEDICATION TO KEEP ME ALIVE. I HAVE BEEN ORDERING MY PRESCRIPTIONS FOR FIFTY YEARS, AND COLLECTING MEDICATION FROM MY PHARMACY.
I AM ALSO REGISTERED BLIND…. I HAVE A SMALL AMOUNT OF SIGHT. BUT IT DOES NOT ALLOW ME TO USE APPs ON PHONES, OR CLICKING ON LINKS ON PHONES.
I HAVE STRUGGLED TO USE THIS NEW SYSTEM. I HAD TO ASK A NEIGHBOUR TO READ A TEXT, SENT BY MY SURGERY.
NOR CAN I MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO SEE A G.P. UNLESS I EITHER USE THE APP/INTERNET OR PHONE THE SURGERY AT 8.00a.m IN THE MORNING.
OR I CAN CALL THE SURGERY AND GO THROUGH A RANGE OF QUESTIONS TO ORDER MEDICATION.
USING THIS SYTEM IS DISCRIMINATING AGAINST ALL DISABLED PATIENTS, WHO STRUGGLE TO DO BASIC TASKS, LET ALONE CONTACT A SURGERY FOR MEDICATION.
USING THIS SYSTEM IS DISEMPOWERING A DISABLED PERSON FROM HAVING CONTROL OVER THEIR OWN HEALTH CARE.
IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTACT MY SURGERY BY PHONE AND I REGULARLY HAVE TO WAIT OVER 15 MINUTES TO GET THROUGH.
FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE A LIFE LONG MEDICAL CONDITION. RELYING ON MEDICATION AND G.P.s TO KEEP THEM ALIVE, THIS IS A STEP BACKWARDS AND IS NOT APPROPRIATE.
I HAVE BEEN TOLD, THAT IF A PATIENT NEEDS HELP, THEY SHOULD CALL THE SURGERY AT 8.00a.m. AND A HEALTH CARE NAVIGATOR WILL TAKE THE PATIENT THROUGH ALL THE QUESTIONS!
RIDICULOUS.
PLEASE CAN SOMONE LOOK INTO A BETTER WAY. RELIANCE ON TECHNOLOGY / A.I. IS NOT BENEFICIAL TO PATIENTS. WE NEED HUMAN BEINGS TO HELP US.
THANKS.
PETER
Harborough Health Centre, parking is generally very difficult, to contact by phone is ridiculous , 45 mins, i have waited 6 weeks for an appointment to see my own doctor! Medication has been issued by a chemist, that is not suitable for my condition! it appears that no one is ever accountable!
Hi Peter, sorry to hear this. Can I encourage you to complete the survey, so that your views can be taken into account fully? Also have you shared your concerns with the GP practice directly? If you have, and you are unsatisfied with their response, you also have the option to make a complaint, details of this are on this page: https://leicesterleicestershireandrutland.icb.nhs.uk/contact/
